About the Student Money Management Center
The University of Illinois System Student Money Management Center (SMMC) supports financial well-being of students at all universities in the System, including Urbana, Chicago, and Springfield, through:
- Online instruction, both synchronous (e.g., webinars) and asynchronous (campaigns)
- Bi-weekly e-newsletters for students, employees, and parents
- The University of Ilinois Financial Literacy Digital Badges Program (Moodle Courses)
Employees are responsible for program administration; teaching in co-curricular, onine environments; research; and assessment.
SMMC oversees between 4-10 internships each semester to help coordinate communications and research projects that support financial education and advocacy for students and their families.
Financial services, regulations, and technology change rapidly along with the needs of SMMC's target audiences. As a result, members of the SMMC team need to be adaptable in an evolving environment.
SMMC Support Specialist Position Details
Position:
Graduate Hourly, Student Money Management Center (SMMC).
Employment will be during Summer 2024 and the subsequent academic year. Position could start as early as July depending on availability of the most qualified candidates.
Reports To:
University Bursar staff – Assistant Director, Student Money Management Center
Duties/Responsibilities:
To provide financial wellness outreach, educational and consultation support to the Student Money Management Center’s diverse audiences and its professional staff. Responsibilities can include:
- Educate students on general money management concepts, terminology, and financial wellness through multiple modes of delivery, primarily online, and develop supporting educational materials.
- Develop and review educational materials to address the needs of diverse populations (e.g., International Students, Staff, Faculty, Parents, etc.)
- Perform data analyses on a variety of communication and education efforts addressing student needs and financial education.
- Assist with oversight and management of the existing University of Illinois Financial Literacy Digital Badges Program in Moodle or Canvas learning management systems.
- Help supervise internship projects on data analysis, marketing and content development each semester.
- Serve as a social justice advocate for diverse socioeconomic populations through awareness initiatives for all of SMMCs stakeholders (students, parents, staff and faculty).
- Collaborate with existing university departments and units in order to facilitate financial literacy to diverse student populations at all Universities in the System.
- Content may include writing educational articles, creating graphics and or videos.
- Create and update policies and procedures as projects are created and modified as well as track results of financial literacy efforts and projects.
- Advertise SMMC activities using print and digital media, co-manage SMMCs online presence through social media sites e.g., Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, LinkedIn.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience:
Experience in curriculum development, online education (synchronous or asynchronous), data analysis, marketing, and working in a virtual environment preferred. Experience with program evaluation, graphic design, video editing, Banner system, and/or Microsoft Suite beneficial.
Basic personal finance and money management knowledge also preferred, but not required.
Minimum qualifications:
Student must be enrolled in a graduate degree program at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign for the entiretly of the 2024/2025 academic year.
Applicants must have basic writing skills, ability to interact and communicate effectively with others in virtual and face-to-face scenarios, initiative to generate and implement new ideas.
Wage and Position Details:
Graduate Hourly, 20 hours per week, Hourly Rate = $30.66/hour
