In July, we let you know that the State of Illinois Department of Central Management Services (CMS) had announced a new contract with its AFSCME bargaining unit, which included changes to healthcare benefits under the State Employees Group Insurance Program. This included increases to the health insurance contribution amounts (i.e., health plan cost deducted from your pay) that would impact benefits-eligible University employees effective January 1, 2020. Due to these changes, CMS initially anticipated holding a limited special enrollment period this Fall.
However, CMS has announced that upon further discussion with AFSCME, those increases will be deferred until July 1, 2020. Accordingly, CMS will no longer be holding a special enrollment period during the Fall of 2019.
Specific costs and any other changes will be described in detail in the Benefit Choice booklet and other materials that will be issued by CMS in conjunction with the annual Benefit Choice open enrollment period in May 2020. When this information becomes available, we will communicate it broadly via email and an announcement posted on the System HR Services website.
