  • i-card design "Refresh" for Springfield

    Springfield i‑card design "Refreshed"

As of Friday, August 16, 2024 all Springfield i‑cards will feature an updated wordmark and campus photo. Below is an example of the photo i‑card with these changes in place.

The new wordmark reflects current brand guidelines for UIS, and the new photo beautifully showcases the campus Colonnade. Together, these elements have refreshed the i‑card design.

Please note:  All unexpired UIS i‑cards are still valid—as long as the cardholder is a current student or employee and their i‑card is not expired. Cardholders must continue to use the i card they already have, and exchanges to obtain this "new" i‑card will not be permitted. This economy will keep functioning, unexpired i‑cards in use for their full allotted lifespan.

  • "New" student i-card label for Urbana-Champaign

"New" card label to be used for Urbana-Champaign students

Starting Monday, August 12, 2024 all photo i-cards for matriculated students attending the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign will be issued with the printed label "Student." An example of this label is shown below.

The following labels will not longer be printed on any student i-cards:

    • Graduate
    • Undergraduate
    • College of Law
    • College of Medicine
    • Veterinary Medicine

Any i-cards issued previously with these labels are still valid—as long as the cardholder is a current student and their i‑card is not expired. Students are not to exchange their unexpired i-cards for one with a "Student" label.

University ID card labels depict a person's role or affiliation to the University of Illinois System when they were printed, and they are never intended to guarantee a person's current, active status in the System. All university units that provide ID-based services rely on electronic verification of a cardholder's status and affiliation.

This move to one card label will help students to receive their i-cards more quickly; it will also keep unexpired i‑cards out of landfills, as they are used for their full allotted lifespan without the "need" to change printed labels. A single "Student" i‑card label has been in use for 20+ years already at the universities at Chicago and Springfield.

  • Two ways to get your i-card!

There's always two ways to get your i-card.

All eligible employees and students on the campus at Chicago, Urbana, or Springfield can choose one of two ways to get an i‑card:

    1. Submit your photo online in advance, then pick up your i‑card at the ID Center. “Same day” service is not available with this option.
      OR
    2. Let us take care of it! Stop by your ID Center to get your photo taken and your i‑card printed on site.

Whichever option you choose, it's four easy steps to get your i‑card:

  • Getting a library account number

    Getting a library account number

Are you a fully online student who needs a library number to access materials and resources? If so, you can contact your ID Center to request one!

    Who should get one?

If you're a student who doesn't have or need a physical i‑card—such as a 100% online or off-campus student—you can request a library account number. Traditional on-campus students with borrowing privileges can use their i‑card to check out library materials. As long as you have a valid student account (including an active NetID and UIN), a library account number may allow you to access certain electronic resources, and more—check with your university library to confirm what services are available with a library account number.

    How to submit a request

Use your ".edu" account to email your ID Center and request a library account number, making sure to also provide your University Identification Number (UIN).
