Subject: SURS Contributions for Furlough Days
If you were required to take furlough days between January and June 2010, those furlough days were reported to SURS prior to July 2, 2010.
You are receiving this email because you were required to take furlough days between January and June 2010, which were reported to SURS prior to July 2, 2010. The following new FAQs, which may be of interest to you, have been added to the UHR website at https://hr.uillinois.edu/PolicyCompliance/PolicyLibrary/HRPolicy/Furlough.cfm.
Does a recently passed State of Illinois furlough law impact me?
You may notice a news item on the SURS website entitled Making Contributions for Furlough Days Under New 40 ILCS S/15-113.11. Please note that this item does NOT pertain to University of Illinois employees, because your furlough days were reported to SURS prior to July 2, 2010. You may disregard this particular SURS news item.
I did not elect to make up my SURS contributions for the furlough days. How can I do so now?
You may still make up the contributions by calling SURS to request the cost and remitting payment directly to SURS. Do not use the forms found on the SURS website. When you contact SURS, they will compute the necessary payment amount for the reported furlough days, which will include interest at the SURS actuarially assumed rate up through the date the payment is received by SURS. Call SURS at 800-275-7877 or 217-378-8800 in the Urbana-Champaign area.
If you already made up your SURS contributions, or you do not wish to make up your SURS contributions for the furlough days, then no further action is necessary.
