Vacation and collectively bargained sick leave are eligible exclusions which SURS has removed from bills in the past. Beginning with bills dated May 11, 2009, SURS will not remove vacation or collectively bargained sick leave from the initial bills. However, vacation and collectively bargained sick leave remain eligible exclusions and reasons for appeal. Therefore, please be aware that vacation and collectively bargained sick leave may be included in the initial bills and reports departments receive. SURS states the reason for this calculation change is that SURS hopes to automate the printing of the initial bills later this calendar year or early next calendar year. SURS realizes this will create a few more bills initially, but hopes that it will be the first step in expediting the process overall.
