A hearing about the State of Illinois decision to discontinue its contract with Health Alliance as a managed care provider will be held on April 27. The Illinois House of Representatives Higher Education Committee, chaired by Representative Naomi Jakobsson, will hold the hearing at 4 PM in Room 114 of the State Capitol Building in Springfield, Illinois. Notice of the hearing is posted on the Illinois General Assembly Website at http://www.ilga.gov/house/committees/hearing.asp?CommitteeID=892&GA=97.
University of Illinois representatives will speak on behalf of our employees in support of a cost effective and reasonably convenient HMO option, which provides continuity of care and access to local physicians and specialists. Representatives from Health Alliance and others who are impacted by the decision will also speak at the hearing. This will be the first opportunity to provide input, as the State of Illinois decision to eliminate the Health Alliance, Humana, and PersonalCare HMOs, was arrived at without the University's involvement through the competitive Request for Proposals process governed by the State Procurement Code.
This is a public hearing where those who attend may have the opportunity to voice their views and concerns about the State's managed care plan decision. University employees who attend the hearing during work hours, operations permitting and with prior approval from their supervisor, will need to use vacation leave in accordance with University policy.
