University faculty and staff who are considering retirement may need help making important decisions given the recently passed pension reform law. Eligible employees who already received a counseling appointment may request a second appointment if needed. SURS issued the following statement:
"SURS will waive the one appointment/estimate per year restriction for members who may have already had an appointment/estimate within the last year, but now want estimates that consider the implications of PA98-599 (pension reform). In order to be eligible for a second estimate, you must be retirement eligible as of 6/30/14 or before, thinking of retiring within the next 3-4 years, and have not already received estimates based on PA98-599 implications.
To request a second appointment, you must call SURS at 800-275-7877. A Member Services Representative will need to perform an override to waive the restriction and allow you to complete an estimate request form online."
