Join IDPH’s Physical Services team as an IT and Physical Security Intern and gain valuable experience in supporting IT infrastructure and enhancing physical security measures across IDPH sites. This internship offers an opportunity to contribute to critical projects involving access control, security protocol implementation, and IT service relocation, under the guidance of experienced professionals.
Location: Springfield, IL (in-person)
Responsibilities:
- Help the statewide physical security coordinator for IDPH, collaborating with CMS, DoIT, contractors, and building owners to design and implement physical security protocols.
- Assist in planning and executing physical security control maintenance and upgrade projects across IDPH sites.
- Issue access control badges to IDPH staff, contractors, and agency personnel requiring access to IDPH facilities.
- Implement and maintain door access control standards using the Indentiv Velocity access control system.
- Develop and document physical security procedures in alignment with IDPH guidelines.
- Support the Division Chief in creating and updating physical security policies for IDPH.
- Coordinate IT service and equipment moves during office relocations.
- Attend office location moving meetings and compile comprehensive lists of services and equipment to be relocated.
- Manage surplus or reallocation of equipment not being moved to new locations.
- Collaborate with office staff to coordinate IT aspects of office moves and address any related issues at new locations.
Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in relevant field of study.
- Able to work approximately 10-15 hours per week
- Strong interest in IT infrastructure management and physical security systems.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Familiarity with access control systems and IT service management is advantageous.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Willingness to visit new locations to assist with IT setup and resolve any related issues.
Duration and Compensation:
This is a semester-long unpaid internship with flexible scheduling options to accommodate academic commitments. The internship will be part-time for approximately 10-15 hours per week onsite in Springfield, Illinois. Academic credit may be available depending on your institution's guidelines.
