Administrative Support and Health Policy Research Summer 2024 Internship
Are you passionate about public health policy and eager to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic environment? The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) is seeking an enthusiastic intern to join our team and assist with coordination, planning, and research efforts. This internship provides a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects while learning valuable skills in health policy and administrative support. The intern will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience, mentorship, and networking opportunities within the field of public health policy.
Responsibilities:
1. Coordination and Planning: Assist in the coordination and planning of both internal and external meetings and training sessions. This includes scheduling, logistics management, and ensuring all materials are prepared in advance.
2. Health Policy Research: Conduct research on health policies and regulations at the state level. Review existing regulations and identify areas for improvement or change. Make recommendations based on findings to enhance the effectiveness of health policies.
3. Meeting Support: Attend meetings alongside department staff, take detailed notes, and provide comprehensive summaries. This involves capturing key discussion points, decisions made, and action items to ensure effective follow-up.
4. Business Organizational Updates: Support the department in updating and implementing organizational changes as required. Assist with maintaining accurate records and documentation related to business operations.
5. Communication: Draft communication materials and emails as requested by department staff. Ensure clarity, accuracy, and professionalism in all written communications.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program (ideally Health Administration, Government Policy, Business Administration, Public Health)
- Ability to commute to the Chicago office semi-regularly (hybrid working set-up)
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Excellent research skills, with the ability to analyze information and make informed recommendations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with email communication
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with keen attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a team environment.
Duration and Compensation:
This is an unpaid internship with flexible scheduling options to accommodate academic commitments. The internship will be part time, for approximately 8 hours per week and will start at the end of May or beginning of June. This is a hybrid position located in Chicago. Academic credit may be available depending on your institution's guidelines. Applications due by March 22, 2024.
