Overview:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented intern to support a variety of community health initiatives across 16 local health departments in Region 5. This dynamic role offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in community health, administrative tasks, marketing, outreach, and program development while collaborating with public health professionals, local health departments, and community stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with outreach efforts to promote health programs and initiatives across Region 5.
- Work closely with 16 local health departments, including Clay, Crawford, Effingham, Egyptian, Fayette, Franklin-Williamson, Hamilton, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, and more, to support ongoing health programs and initiatives.
- Support administrative tasks within the Regional Office, including data entry, reporting, and coordination of activities.
- Help with the planning and execution of marketing and communication strategies for public health campaigns.
- Attend and assist in the preparation for health coalition meetings, either in person or remotely.
- Participate in and support various program projects within the Regional Office.
- Attend State Association meetings, either in person or virtually, to stay informed about state-level public health initiatives.
- Collaborate with staff and community partners to gather feedback, provide support, and enhance the impact of community health programs.
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a graduate or undergraduate level degree in Public Health, Health Administration and Management, or related field.
- Ability to work 10 hours per week.
- Must have access to a reliable vehicle or other self-sufficient means of travel for travel between local health departments and community meetings.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Interest in public health, community health, and/or health education.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Familiarity with social media and digital communication tools is a plus.
Duration and Compensation:
This is an unpaid internship with flexible scheduling options to accommodate academic commitments. This is a hybrid position in Southern Illinois for 10 hours a week. Academic credit may be available depending on your institution's guidelines.
