Office of Communications/Community Outreach Fall 2024 Internship

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) is offering an exciting internship opportunity with the team at the Office of Communications/Community Outreach. We are dedicated to advancing public health initiatives across Illinois, ensuring effective communication and engagement with diverse communities.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Database Development
- Create and maintain database to support the work of the Office of Communications.
- Maintain the Communications Demographic database to facilitate targeted messaging strategies.
- Build and update a comprehensive database of health and science reporters in Illinois, coordinating with news desk managers and editorial directors.
- Refine media contact lists in coordination with IDPH Public Information Officers to optimize outreach efforts.
- Distribution Lists
- Establish and update regional distribution lists for healthcare providers, including hospitals and Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs).
- Collect and manage specialized lists of medical professionals in various disciplines, including working with associations such as the American Medical Association (AMA) to access and organize lists of practicing doctors with public health related specialties
- Digital Archiving
- Collect and archive digital mentions of IDPH ensuring a comprehensive record of its digital footprint.
- Maintain ongoing documentation of IDPH digital footprint.
- Communication Responsibilities
- Contribute to campaign messaging efforts, particularly for initiatives like Heart Health Month, focusing on marginalized and minority groups.
- Engage in content creation, scheduling, and conceptualizing outreach strategies for Public Health Month.
- Propose and develop initiatives to involve high school students in public health projects..
- Community Outreach Responsibilities
- Participate in strategy sessions on replicating successful public health Ambassador programs at other colleges throughout the state.
- Create and manage a calendar of health-related events across the state for potential attendance and engagement.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a relevant graduate program.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in database management and digital archiving preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Duration and Compensation:
This is a semester-long unpaid internship with flexible scheduling options to accommodate academic commitments. The internship will be part-time as a hybrid position located in Chicago for approximately 10 hours per week. Must be on-site at least one day a week. Academic credit may be available depending on your institution's guidelines.
