The Medical Services Department is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented intern to support our analysis of public health functions at the state and federal levels. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience assessing how shifts in federal funding impact state and local public health programs. The selected intern will engage in in-depth research, data mining, and report development to support data-driven decision-making and policy evaluation within the department.
Responsibilities:
- Work under and collaborate closely with the Chief Medical Officer to conduct impact analysis of federal funding cuts on public health programs.
- Perform extensive data mining and policy research using internal records, federal and state reports, and health databases.
- Synthesize findings into a comprehensive, professional-grade report with actionable insights and recommendations.
- Assist in identifying program gaps, operational challenges, and strategic opportunities based on data-driven insights.
- Develop a strong understanding of the differing roles of federal and state entities in public health governance and funding.
- Participate in meetings, briefings, and discussions with senior leadership as appropriate.
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing an MD, MPH, MBA, or MHA.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with experience handling and interpreting complex data.
- Excellent writing and communication abilities, including the ability to create high-quality policy or technical reports.
- Interest in public health systems, healthcare financing, or government policy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with data visualization tools or public health data sets is a plus.
- Self-starter with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Duration and Compensation:
This is an unpaid internship with flexible scheduling options to accommodate academic commitments. Academic credit may be available depending on your institution's guidelines. This is a fully remote opportunity for 3-5 hours a week for 8 weeks.
