Public Health Research Summer 2024 Internship
At the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), we are committed to promoting public health and addressing critical issues affecting our community. We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated intern to join our team and contribute to important projects focused on improving access to healthcare and addressing behavioral health concerns, particularly in adolescents.
As an intern, you will have the opportunity to work on two key projects:
1. Mapping Access to Care and Care Deserts:
- Conduct research to map out access to healthcare facilities and identify care deserts for conditions driving the top 10 causes of mortality in Illinois.
- Analyze data to understand gaps in healthcare accessibility and contribute to recommendations for improving access to care in underserved areas.
2. Social Media Messaging for Behavioral Health in Adolescents:
- Explore social media platforms to analyze messaging related to behavioral health, particularly focusing on adolescents.
- Identify trends, challenges, and opportunities in social media messaging regarding behavioral health issues.
- Provide insights and recommendations for enhancing the effectiveness of social media campaigns aimed at promoting behavioral health awareness and support among adolescents.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct research and data analysis related to access to care and behavioral health messaging.
- Compile and organize research findings into clear and concise reports.
- Collaborate with team members to brainstorm ideas and develop strategies for addressing public health challenges.
- Assist in the creation of materials and resources to support public health initiatives.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to project discussions.
Requirements:
- Graduate Student (Public Health preferred)
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with a team.
- Interest in public health, healthcare access, and behavioral health issues.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and familiarity with social media platforms.
Duration and Compensation:
This is an unpaid internship with flexible scheduling options to accommodate academic commitments. This internship will be part-time for approximately 8 hours per week. This is a hybrid position with possible on-site commitments in Chicago. Academic credit may be available depending on your institution's guidelines. Application deadline is March 22, 2024.
