Financial Coaching Moves to Money Mentors
To better scale to our diverse populations’ changing needs, we are no longer offering individual coaching sessions through the Student Money Management Center starting June 15, 2020. Instead, we are encouraging the students and employees we serve across the University of Illinois System to register for the Money Mentors program with University of Illinois Extension.

University of Illinois Extension has partnered with the Student Money Management Center from our inception on many outreach efforts both at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as well as state-wide. We have collaborated on in-person events, marketing campaigns, webinars, committees, and more over the past decade. We trust their expertise and commitment to helping consumers.
About Money Mentors
Money Mentors are available to assist individuals with personal finance strategies, including budgeting, establishing financial goals, building savings, managing credit and paying down debt, as well as organizing finances. Money Mentor volunteers are trained in problem-solving and financial coaching strategies to help participants accomplish their financial goals.
Meeting one-on-one with a Money Mentor is free. Mentors help people by phone, email, in-person and online meetings. To learn more about the program, please visit the Money Mentors website.
As a participant, you can meet one time (for example, if you have a few questions about money management) or you can commit to communicating at least once a month over a four month period. After four months of mentoring, you can decide if you'd like to continue meeting with your mentor. All meetings are free and confidential. Fill out the Participant Enrollment Form to start now.
Request a Mentor
To talk with a trained University of Illinois Extension Money Mentor volunteer:
- Complete the Money Mentor Participant Enrollment Form.
- Once the form is submitted, it will be routed to University of Illinois Extension staff.
- University of Illinois Extension staff will review your form to find the best Money Mentor for you.
- Once a good fit has been found, a Money Mentor will reach out to you to set up a meeting.
Note: Until further notice, all Money Mentor meetings will occur virtually.
Confidentiality
University of Illinois Extension protects the confidentiality of people who request help from a Money Mentor. University of Illinois staff who may see your information will maintain confidentiality to the extent of laws and university policies. Personal identifiers (such as your name or specific financial questions) will only be shared with your Money Mentor volunteer and necessary University employees.
