You will receive a mandatory notice at your home address that explains the option to purchase health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace. The federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (“PPACA”) requires the University, as your employer, to send you this notice. However, you do not need to purchase insurance through the Marketplace as long as you and your eligible dependent family members maintain health insurance coverage.
Health insurance under one of the University plans provided by the State of Illinois Department of Central Management Services (“CMS”) or one of the student health insurance plans satisfies your individual responsibility to carry health insurance coverage under the PPACA.
All employees are encouraged to review the notice. If you or your dependent family members do not currently have health insurance, please carefully read the appropriate email and notice below. PPACA requires nearly all individuals to obtain health insurance coverage for themselves and any dependent family members.
