    Photo requirements

    The photo file

    • Cannot be a photo of a photo.
    • Does not exceed 1000 pixels in each dimension.
    • Must be square (height must equal width).
    • Must be in full color in JPEG (.jpg) file format.

    The background

    • Use a well-lit setting and avoid unnatural lighting, glare, and shadows.
    • Stand in front of a plain, untextured, solid, light-colored background.
    • Make sure there aren't other objects or persons in the photo.

    Your body and face

    • Face the camera straight-on and centered in the photo frame.
    • Capture only from the top of your shoulders to the top of your hair.
    • Your eyes must be open and your face must be in focus.
    • No sunglasses, head coverings, or hats.
    • No silly poses, facial expressions, or filters.

    In addition, your photo must reflect your current appearance, taken within the last six months.

  • Accepted proofs of identity

    Accepted proofs of identity

    To get any University of Illinois photo ID, you must present one form of physical identification listed below. ID Centers and ID Offices do not accept digital IDs, or copies or photos of IDs. The full name shown on your proof of identity must match the name on your record in Banner. Any legal name changes or corrections must first be made through the appropriate office.

    All proofs of identity must be current or no more than one year expired, and they must include a recognizable photo of you.

    Passports and passport cards

    • U.S. passport
    • U.S. passport card
    • Foreign passport

    Driver's licenses and ID cards

    • Driver's license or learner's permit issued by a state or territory of the United States
    • Driver's license or learner's permit issued by a Canadian province or territory
    • ID card issued by a state or territory of the United States
    • ID card issued by a Canadian province or territory
    • U.S. or Canadian military ID
    • U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Document
    • Enhanced Tribal Card
    • Global Entry Card

    Citizenship and immigration documents

    • I-197 U.S. Citizen ID Card
    • I-551 Permanent Resident Card (Green Card) or Alien Registration Card
    • I-766 Employment Authorization

    Consular identification

    • Matricula Consular (Mexican Consulate) card
