Low-density polyethylene plastic shopping bags can take hundreds of years to decompose, and now many cities like Chicago implement per-bag usage charges. A UIC College of Engineering team may have a solution for both of these issues: a plant-based bioplastic that uses lignin, a natural glue that binds cellulose and other natural molecules.
