The IRS announced that the annual contribution limits for both supplemental retirement plans changed for 2026. The 403(b) and the 457 Deferred Compensation Plan contribution limits are increasing as follows:
- If you are under the age of 50, your contribution limit is $24,500 for the University 403(b) plan and $24,500 combined limit for the 457 Plans.
- If you are age 50 or over at the end of the 2026 calendar year, your limit is $32,500. Please read the next bullet.
- If you are age 60, 61, 62, or 63 during the 2026 calendar year, your limit is $35,750. This is a new catch-up contribution available beginning January 1, 2026.
- If you are age 63 during the 2026 calendar year but will be age 64 by the end of 2026, your contribution limit will be $32,500.
- You may contribute the annual maximum to both the 403(b) and the 457 Plans.
- You may contribute to both traditional (pre-tax) and Roth (after-tax) at the same time.
