Have you ever submitted a request for a new self-supporting fund and wondered how you could make the process more efficient going forward? If so, see below for some helpful tips:
- Use the most current version of the Fund, Program, and Index (FPI) Code Request Form: The latest version is always available on the UAFR Forms webpage.
- Provide complete, detailed responses: Complete all the required tabs (the primary FPI Code Request tab, the SSF Supplemental Info tab, and the SSF Attestation Statement tab) and include as much detail as possible for each question.
- Include a fully executed revenue-generating agreement (if applicable): Section 22.5, Contracts for Revenue Generating Activities outlines when this is required. Ensure it is completed, signed, and included with your request, if applicable.
- Include documentation from your campus grant office (if applicable): If you have written confirmation that the activity does not belong in a grant fund, attach it with your submission. While not always needed, it can prevent delays in cases where it applies.
- Complete the Service Activity Basics Certification Course for New 3E Fund Type Requests: This Government Costing requirement must be met before submitting a request for any new self‑supporting fund assigned a 3E fund type.
- Verify NACUBO Function – Fund Type compatibility: If you are requesting a new program code along with your new self-supporting fund, ensure the NACUBO function you select is allowable for the fund type using the NACUBO Functions & Allowable Fund Type Combinations Grid on the UAFR Program Codes webpage.
- Indicate if you plan to assess indirect costs: If you would like to assess your new self-supporting fund for indirect costs via an administrative allowance assessment, note this on your FPI form.
