  Did you know that units are responsible for collecting and reporting applicable sales taxes when making a taxable sale to an external party? See below for further guidance:

  • Taxable sales are typically defined as sales of tangible property to an external party (including students/faculty/staff). These types of sales are primarily recorded in self-supporting funds, but may also take place in other fund types as well (such as gift funds).   
     
  • To report your taxable sales to UAFR (which is necessary to complete and submit the tax returns and related payments to the applicable taxing authority), it is essential that you complete the Sales Tax Reporting Form which is located on UAFR’s Forms webpage.
  • Email the completed form to UAFR at uafrtax@uillinois.edu. 
  • For further guidance related to collecting and reporting sales tax, refer to Collect and Report Sales and Use Tax within Section 22 as well as Section 18.6 – Sales and Use Tax of the Business and Financial Policies and Procedures manual.
