Payments to Students
University of Illinois students may receive payment from the University system for assistantships, fellowships, awards, grants, research support, scholarships, traineeships, travel, etc. The type, purpose, and primary beneficiary (students or University of Illinois) for a payment determines how it is processed and whether it must be reported to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and/or the appropriate Financial Aid Office.
