The University of Illinois System travel policy states that employees must use the most economical mode of transportation available, considering travel time, costs, and work requirements.
While Uber Black and Business class flights that do not meet the 14-hour minimum sound great, they are not allowed if you do not have an approved travel accommodation on file.
Prior to purchasing premium transportation, you must obtain written authorization from your university equal employment opportunity (EEO) office or System Human Resource Services for system office employees, documenting the approved accommodation. The written authorization must be submitted with the related expense report. Written authorization should specify the duration of the accommodation.
If you choose to book premium travel as an out-of-pocket expense without an approved travel accommodation, please obtain an economy travel comparison at the time of booking. If an Economy comparison is not provided with the expense report, an exception must be secured prior to reimbursement.
