On June 5 and 6, Dr. Tanya Gallagher, UIUC’s Dean of the College of Applied Health Sciences, was in D.C. to update lawmakers, federal agencies, and veterans organizations on the progress that has been made with the Center for Wounded Veterans in Higher Education and to spread awareness about the November 8 groundbreaking. On Capitol Hill, she met with Rep. Rodney Davis and Rep. Tammy Duckworth, as well as with the offices of Senators Durbin and Kirk and the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee. She also met with top officials at the Department of Education’s National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research, DOD’s Warrior Transition Command, the Veterans Benefits Administration at the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (VETS) at the Department of Labor, the American Legion, and the American Council on Education. She explored federal funding streams that will support the Center both before and after it opens.
