blog postsF18 DecisionsResults from the Inaugural UIDEA Batch Since Demo Day on January 24, the four teams who were part of the inaugural batch of UIDEA have reviewed audience and Selection Committee feedback, adjusted their asks from Demo Day based on feedback, and participated in a due diligence process. The Selection Committee held its Decision Day, and the Foundation is pleased to announce the F18 batch results: Chatterbox requested $75,000 to launch an AI-driven chat bot on the UIF website to expand customer service to 24 hours a day, with the capability to scale the bot to unit giving sites and other sites across the enterprise. Results from Demo Day were 86% go, 14% no go, and participant comments included, “Love that UI would pioneer this!” and “We need this modern technology.” The Selection Committee voted to scale this initiative. The Gift decided after Demo Day to independently pursue the podcast and requested an exclusive sponsorship from the Foundation for its first year, totaling $10,000. Results from Demo Day were 53% go, 47% no go, and participant comments included, “I love it!” and “Even if just some of the episodes gain popularity, it could give UI a lot of exposure.” The Selection Committee invited the team to join the Spring batch to launch the podcast, begin marketing, and further refine its business plan. The I-57s asked to scale its recommendations for a community-based farmland stewardship strategy, launching TED plan templates, gift officer toolkits, community events, and PR strategies, totaling $8,500, for each two new gifts of farmland, with an additional FY20 budget request in salary support. Results from Demo Day were 87% go, 13% no go, and participant comments included, “Yes, yes, yes! We are uniquely positioned to lead this!” and “I <3 the publicity and stewardship ideas!” The Selection Committee approved the financial request and the plan and fully supports the 0.25 salary request. Matchmaker requested advancement into the UIDEA S19 batch, launching in April, to further develop the new technology and pilot with early adopter units. Results from Demo Day were 83% go, 17% no go, and participant comments included, “This is perhaps the best thing I heard today.” and “I love the idea of celebrating donor milestones like 100th scholarship awarded. This is such a fantastic idea.” The Selection Committee voted to advance this initiative to the S19 batch.
