The University of Illinois System was made aware of an Aetna OAP claim processing error that may have impacted your billing. Outpatient copays were incorrectly duplicated in the Aetna claims system and applied to all outpatient facility “place of service” claims, not just surgery claims. Aetna has since updated their claims system to correct this issue. Aetna will be reviewing and reprocessing all outpatient facility “place of service” claims submitted between 7/1/25 and 9/11/25. If you had a claim impacted by this issue, Aetna will send you and your medical provider(s) an updated Explanation of Benefits (EOB).
