As President Killeen announced in his June 17th communication, we are pleased to add Juneteenth National Independence Day to the University of Illinois System holiday schedule beginning June 2022. In his Proclamation on Juneteenth, President Biden stated, “On Juneteenth, we recommit ourselves to the work of equity, equality, and justice. And, we celebrate the centuries of struggle, courage, and hope that have brought us to this time of progress and possibility.” The annual observance of this historic day will provide us with an opportunity not only for celebration, but also for continued engagement and conversation toward eradicating racism and encouraging social equity.
Our first observance of Juneteenth will be on Friday, June 17, 2022. You may view the updated holiday schedules for each university and system offices here. While eligible faculty and staff will receive paid holiday time on the Juneteenth holiday, the University of Illinois System never fully closes and essential operations will continue. Holiday usage and pay policies will apply, as they do for other designated holidays.
Questions regarding holiday schedules may be directed to your university or system human resources office.
